Thanks Karan, I'll check those links.

Is there any other option to successfully get what I need without using any special methods and just configuring 2 simple static routes?

Unfortunely no (AFAIK for sure), those rpm probes are must to automate the failure detection.

Hi Alex,

Thank you and appreciate your efforts..

The scenario is P2P solution in between Cisco 6506 switch(H.O.) and Juniper EX 3400/4300(Branch location) for max 60 users.

Two Layer3 Link(different ISP) will be used for P2P connectivity. Both link need to up and active simultaneously. There are few configuration suggestion we have consider to achieve P2P connectivity for this scenario. First we will try LACP if that will not work then we will go for Layer3 VLAN / OSPF(with IPsec) / BGP / MPLS. There is some dependency at ISP end as well.

As I checked, Juniper EX3400/4300 has limited/no features for MPLS and IPsec. Need your expert advice to achieve the  requirement.

Supported protocol - https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/reference/general/ex-series-l3-protocols-supported.html

Not supported protocol - https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/reference/general/ex-series-l3-protocols-not-supported.html

We also have same type of connectivity with other branch location. We used there LACP but observed asynchronous routing(3 ISP at H.O.) issue so we are using only one ISP link for the connectivity and second link remains ideal.

Thank you...

Hi,

Following is my understanding about your scenario.

Since provider link is an l3 link.your topology will be as follows.

Cisco 6509 (stand alone or VSS) --->192.168.1.0/30(provider/Cisco segment)-------provider cloud------->192.168.1.4/30-----Juniper EX 4200 (This is for one link)

Similar, setup will be there for secondary link as well.

If above scenario is correct, then ospf with authentication you may use for dynamic routing and failover to acheive your requirements.

If your links are l2, then following will be the scenario.

Cisco 6509 (stand alone or VSS) 192.168.1.1/30(provider/Cisco segment)-------provider cloud------->192.168.1.2/30 Juniper EX 4200 (This is for one link)

similar setup will be there for secondary link.

In this scenario, you may do lacp based aggregation where you may configure port channel on Cisco 6500 and ae config on Juniper ex 4200.

Hi Milind,

We have standalone cisco 6506 switch and 2 Layer 3 p2p link. Both link need to up and pass network traffic. We have concern about MPLS and IPsec functionality on EX platform.

Thank you

As you yourself already stated, EX4300 does not support IPSEC or MPLS (L3 VPN I assume is what you would be looking for?).

Juniper QFX5110 and Catalyst 3560 problem

Hi guys,

So I faced a really weird problem. I have a QFX5110 switches bundled into Virtual Chassis. And I have a standalone Cisco Catalyst 3560 switch.

I'm trying to setup a simple trunk between them and I just can't The biggest problem is that the interfaces doesn't even come up on both ends!

I tried to do command

show interfaces diagnostics optics ge-0/0/26

But it doesn't even get me any output !

What is going on ?

Any ideas what might be wrong, why even Layer 1 doesn't work ?

What is funny when I will take the cable off the Juniper and put into Cisco switch, everything between Cisco's just work.

Here is the details on Cisco switch.

it's working now.

My mistake was using the same vlan for the source and my private network.

So now, I use 2 vlan, one for the source (only one port) and one for my private network (about 10 ports). Both have different subnet.

Then, I did created 2 irb for each VLAN, setting up my pim, igmp and igmp-snooping and everything works perfectly.

Since this is empty

I tried to do command

show interfaces diagnostics optics ge-0/0/26

But it doesn't even get me any output !

I suspect an issue with the optic.  Can you see if the optic shows up as inserted here:

show chassis pic fpc-slot 0 pic-slot 0

this should list all the inserted optics.  If it does not show up try remove and reinsert.

Then try a different port, if it works there the port hardware is bad if it does not work anywhere the optic is either bad or not compatible.

Coupl of tests u may perform as follows...
1. physicially loop the ethernet cable between two ports of qfx 5110..
2. if the ports came up, then do similar exercise with cisco (i believe u seem to have done cisco part).
3. if port does not come up, check show chassis hardward and look out if the optics are unsupported on qfx.

4. if the ports came up ij 2nd step, proceed with connecting a cables between cisco and juniper. check the physical interface status. if using same cables, ports do not come up.
5. Then try fixing the speed, duplex and no autonegotiation on both sides.

Cannot delete an interface, why?

I have an EX4500 with an interface with nothing plugged into it. I go into J-web, delete out this section, and click commit

xe-0/0/1 {
   description "vSphere15 Management";
   mtu 9216;
   unit 0 {
      family ethernet-switching {
         port-mode access;
         vlan {
            members Hosts;
         }
      }
   }
}

I then get this error message

There were error(s) delivering the configuration.

Error(s):
'interface'

1) XSTP : Interface xe-0/0/1.0 is not enabled for Ethernet Switching
2) XSTP : Interface xe-0/0/1.0 is not enabled for Ethernet Switching
3) configuration check-out failed

Why can't I delete this interface?

Seems that you have configured the xe-0/0/1 in rstp or vstp..
Since xstp is not able to find the interface post deleting, you seem to be encountering the mentioned error..

you may delete the interface from rstp or vstp, then try deleting from interface hierarchy..
