Strangely enough the above config started working. I did remove the interfaces from the rstp. For some reason it must be an arp issue. Pings and traffic flow between switches now. The above config works. I did add the flowing to make sure CDP works and it does.

layer2-control {
    mac-rewrite {
        interface ge-0/1/2 {
            protocol {
                cdp;
            }
        }

    }
}

Following command is enough for outgoing shaping

set class-of-service interfaces ge-0/0/1 shaping-rate 60m

Is this a cause for concern?

Please advice, thanks!

Verify if shaping is applied by running:

show class-of-service interface <int>

Generate excessive traffic and check

show interfaces <int> statistics

Should show that shaping is indeed hapening.

If for some reason that doean't work you may try this:

set class-of-service schedulers sched-queue-shap-60m shaping-rate 60m
set class-of-service scheduler-maps sched-map-be-60m forwarding-class best-effort scheduler sched-queue-shap-60m
set class-of-service interfaces <int> scheduler-map sched-map-be-60m

Hello Rushi,

'set system tracing destination-override syslog host x.x.x.x': Will this command cause the device to stop the trace output to the local file in the device and just send the trace to ONLY  the remote syslog server?

Firmware version required for Installing EX9200-6QS line card in existing EX9200 Core Switch

$

Hello there,

I have been doing some research based on our current requirement.

We need to install a 40G line card on the existing EX 9200 core switch.  Below are my findings:

According to the Juniper documents:

  1. Minimum JunOS release required to install the EX9200-6QS is 14.2R1 or later.

  1. But since there is a bug found in 14.2R1 as below:

Problem report - PR1068396

  • On EX9200 switches, if an IRB logical interface is configured on an EX9200-6QS line card as part of a VLAN, any device connected through that interface will not be able to route outside of the subnet because EX9200-6QS drops all ARP requests. As a result, the EX9200-6QS line card drops all routed traffic, including both data plane and control plane traffic. Configuring static ARP on devices using the EX9200 as gateway is not a workaround, because the packets are still dropped if the Routing Engine of the EX9200 has the routes and ARP entry for the destination IP. The minimum software release for the EX9200-6QS line card is Junos OS Release 14.2R1. However, if your switch configuration includes an IRB logical interface configured on an EX9200-6QS line card as part of a VLAN, as a workaround, upgrade your software to the release specified in TSB16659.

Source - https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/information-products/topic-collections/release-notes/14.2/junos-release-notes-14.2r2.pdf

  1. The software has to be upgraded to 14.2R2-S2 if we configure IRB interfaces and inter-vlan routing.

Technical Bulletin - TSB16659 says that the bug is fixed in Junos OS Release 14.2R2-S2 and all later releases.

Source - https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=S:TSB16659

  1. As for Juniper's recommended release for EX9200 series switches, they recommend 16.1R6

Source - https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB21476&actp=METADATA#ex_series

  1. Currently customer is running - 14.2R7.5 where it does support inter-vlan routing with IRB interfaces.

Now it’s up to us whether we need to upgrade it to the recommended release or just install the line card directly without any upgrade.

Any suggestions/comments/recommendations if the firmware needs to be upgraded or not  based on your experiences will be greatly appreciated.

Hi snp and J-NET members.

I informed my Juniper SE about issue (PFE image being RE image in reality) and asked him where to report issue. He asked internally. Let's see if there will be some answer.

The vQFX10K 18.1R1 is not published on Vagrant cloud yet (17.4R1 is latest there  - version 0.3).

EX2200 Switch reset password for virtual chassis system.

Hello,

I am trying to get into a 4 switch virtual chassis system that I've taken over that had no documentation. I'm not totally familar with Juniper switches so I'm likely missing something. I've tried the Virtual Chassis reset process. in that link but when I restarted the switch that I believed to be the master after all the others were turned off it booted saying that it's not the master.

Any assistance would be welcome as at this point I'm not sure what to do. I would like to keep the configurations on the devices, but if there is no other option then so be it.

Thanks

OK I see now. To download the correct J-web app (jweb-ex-app-15.1A3-signed.tgz), it is on a different page.

1. Go to https://www.juniper.net/support/downloads/?p=jweb

2.  Select ver 15.1.

3. Download jweb-ex-app-15.1A3-signed.tgz

This file is different to jweb-15.1R4.6-signed.tgz

For more information see:

https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/information-products/pathway-pages/ex-series/pwp-ex-jweb-application-package-151A2.html>

For Junos OS Release 14.1X53-D10 and later, the J-Web interface is available in two packages:

  • Platform package—Provides basic features of J-Web and is installed as part of Junos OS.
  • Application package—Provides complete features of J-Web and is an installable package.
  • Platform Package
    The Platform package of J-Web is installed as part of Junos OS that is shipped with your EX Series switch. The Platform package provides the basic features of the J-Web interface. The Platform package enables you to configure and maintain your switch.
  • Application Package
    The Application package is not installed by default on your switch. You must download it and install it over the Platform package on your switch. The Application package provides all the features of the J-Web interface that enable you to configure, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot your switch.

One more thing, I did not need a support contract to download J-web. However I did need to request access via JTAC by raising a Admin Service Request (License) request.

It would require a restart to reset the password. First save the configuration to a remote system. Then schedule some downtime. Log into the the master RE at the CONSOLE! and reboot (request system reboot). Then place your finger on the space bar and look for this line:

Hit the spacebar when you you see it.

1.“Loading /boot/defaults/loader.conf” then

  • Press the Spacebar (if you wait for the prompt- it may be too late)
  • loader> boot –s (to access single user mode)

2.Enter recovery when prompted to go into recovery mode

/bin/sh: recovery

3.Enter “edit” >Set root password

set system root-authentication plain-text-password

4.Commit the change and exit configuration mode—reboot
