Hello,
We recently upgraded from old Cisco/avaya switches in our closets to stacked ex3300's to a new Nexus (A/B) core
Setup:
The uplinks are 10G with 2 uplinks (one to core one to core b) per stack in an AE on the juniper and VPC configured on the core. (anywere from 2-6 switches per stack)
as part of the upgrade we made a VOIP VLAN (everything was one one flat data vlan per closet before)
we have 2 cores right now we call it "old core" and "new core"
new core:
pair of Nexus 9396
old core
pair of 6509's
Currently all routing for the closet Vlans are on the old core.
the voice routing point is on the nexus (why put them on the old when it will get turned off)
the old and new cores are linked with a 8Gb port-channle
DHCP:
the data vlan is using the MS DHCP server, same as before.
Voice, I made an SRX 210 a DHCP server for the 2 new voice vlans, 31 and 32. it is plugged into the old core as a trunk, and it's really all this box is for. it a temp solution untill we can figure out the MS DHCP server. (not ours just coornation)
lease time is set for 8 days. we are using option 128 to config the phones
Problem:
phone will randomly say "server Unavailable" sometimes you wont see this until you try and make a call, the the screen changes and you see it.
If you are on the phone, you can not be heard but you can still hear the others on the call. It drops randomly. must reboot or let it cycle and call back to reconnect
no port erorrs, no drops can ping the phone server 500K times from the closet switches without missing even one ping (1450 packet size)
What i do notice is if you are ping the phone it just stops pinging, the phone gets a new IP address, even thought the time is set for 8 days.
its almost like something is issueing a DHCP release and the phone stops working untill they time-out and start looking for DHCP again,(about 3-5minutes to comeback) they DO NOT reboot (no sound or flashy lights)
to make this all the more inferating to track down some phones, even on the same swtch NEVER have an issue, then days later they start having issues and others do not.
All phones work perfectly fine on the data vlan, we have moved all phones in most areas of the biulding to the data vlan untill we can figure this out.
here is some info i turned on the time stamp for command to make it easier
SRX for DHCP: notice the arrows only 2 minutes apart
