You need to make sure the transmit fiber strand ends up on the recieve side of your far end optic. If your premise cabling and/or patch cord(s) have these strands criss-crossed somewhere then your optics will not be able to receive each other's transmit. The easiest way to check is to take the connecter housing off the end of one of the patch cords and reverse the A and B plugs and see if you get a link.
