I hope the below pasted config belongs to the interface you are trying to make as Trunk port

ge-1/0/0 {

        unit 0 {

            family inet {

                address 192.168.253.34/30;

            }

            family iso;

        }

    }

Could you please check the Global mode option under show ethernet-switching global-information ?

If the Global mode option appears as Not-set or Transparent, Please give this command set protocols l2-learning global-mode switching and do a commit

You might have to reboot the device after commit, After which please try to configure the port set interfaces ge-1/0/0 unit 0 family ethernet-switching port-mode trunk
